Disc Drive error.. Has anyone experienced this before??

Postby Schlagzeuger » August 10th, 2009, 10:22 am

Hi all,

Over the last few weeks when I've inserted a disc into the drive on my intel iMac, it has made a really weird, noisy, whirring sound when it speeds up and slows down.

I tried burning a CD in iTunes the other day, and this warning message came up in a little box..

'The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media'

... and it spat the disc back out. I tried again and it burned successfully, but made a hell of a noise again. I checked the disc in the car and it reads the first 6 (out of 12) tracks fine, the rest won't allow me to skip through.

I'm a bit worried as I don't want to be without my Mac for any period of time for a possible repair, worse still if any carting of it around causes any damage or other problems!

Has anyone else experienced error? If so, what did you do?

Thanks.
